LG Rumor Review

June 18th, 2009

I wrote this review because there weren’t really any personal reviews out there that weren’t written by a big web site or company that had personal motivation such as sales to write their review.  This is a completely unbiased review by your every day average phone user. When I first picked up my LG Rumor, I was very excited with the idea of having a sleek looking phone that not only looked good but also had a full slide out keyboard for texting.  After having the phone for awhile I can say that I am genuinely happy with the phone however there are a few small things you should know that make the phone a little less than perfect.

LG Rumor Review

Reception - 9/10

The reception on the phone is actually quite good.  Unlike the LG Wine the phone doesn’t sound tinny and everybody can always hear me quite clearly.    The only issue I’ve had with reception was when I was travelling through the mountains on a road trip I dropped my signal a few times.  While this could have been the fault of the phone it was most likely because I was between towers and would have had the same experience regardless of my phone.

LG Rumor Build Quality - 8.5/10

The phones build is actually surprisingly good.  It doesn’t feel cheap and easily slides in and out of my pocket.  The design of the phone does have one fundamental flaw which should make you pamper your LG Rumor a little more than a standard phone.  This flaw is the screen is made of glass and is completely flush with the top of the phone.  Why is this a problem? With glass screens excessive pressure can easily cause damage.  The easy solution is to buy one of the snap on cases that are available that provides some clearance between the screen and things you may lean against. . You can buy a snap on case for just 95 cents if you click here

Aside from the screen being flush, the overall feel of the phone is really nice, it fits quite nicely into your hand.

LG Rumor Keyboard - 10/10

The LG Rumor’s keyboard is probably the best and most stand out feature of the phone.  Every letter in the QWERTY keyboard is nicely spaced.  This makes it extremely easy to type with.  When compared to other QWERTY slider phones like the Samsung Vice there really is no comparison, LG did their homework on the keyboard, the Rumor gets a 10/10.

LG Rumor Screen - 8/10

The screen on the LG Rumor is actually very bright and vivid.  The resolution is quite high for a phone this affordable, featuring a 176×220 resolution screen resulting in pictures looking very clear.  The orientation of the LG Rumor screen actually changes depending on whether or not you have the slide out QWERTY keyboard out or not which is a nice touch for when you are texting.  The only issue with the screen is the fact that it is flush with the phone making it more prone to damage.

LG Rumor Camera - 7/10

While the LG Rumor does come equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, it could use a bit of an improvement.  It takes good pictures when the lighting is good however under poor lighting situations the flash doesn’t perform as well as one might like.  While this was a slight disappointment most people don’t take pictures in low light levels anyways, so it didn’t overly upset me.

LG Rumor MP3 Player - 9/10

I purchased a 2GB micro SD card and loaded it up with a ton of my favorite music. I have to admit the Mp3 player is one of my favorite aspects of the phone.  I no longer have to carry around both my iPod and my phone.  I’ve consolidated it into one and its made my pockets much lighter.

Overall I really can’t complain.  I managed to get the phone for free on a two year contract and aside from having to be a bit cautious of the screen I have to rate this phone a solid 8.5/10

Overall - 8.5/10

Available LG Rumor Colors

May 21st, 2009

The LG Rumor is a tremendously popular mobile phone and as a result is available in a handful of colors.

Initially the LG Rumor was only available in Black and White but the color selection has been expanded upon to really expand the reach of the product.  The product is now available in Black (with blue slider), White (with grey slider),  green (with grey slider), Baby Blue (with grey slider) and orange (with dark grey slider).

The colors available to you really depend on what your carrier has to offer.  Where I am from, we only have the Black/blue, white/grey and Orange/black combos.  The green and baby blue LG Rumos can be found on the larger carriers in the USA such as Sprint and Vorizon.

Below I’ve included some pictures to show you what each of the different LG Rumors look like in different colors.
